May 2008 SDNY Criminal Justice Act Panel is now accepting applications.The Committee on Defender Services for the Southern District of New York announced on May 5, 2008 that it will be accepting applications for positions on the District's Criminal Justice Act Panel. January 2008 On Thursday, October 4, 2007, the Federal Bar Council issued a statement in support of the Federal Judicial Salary Restoration Bill of 2007 (S. 1638), noting, among other things, that Judicial salaries effectively have decreased over 40% since 1969. The Federal Bar Council supports Senate Bill 1638, which abandons the practice of linking judicial compensation to that legislators, thus freeing judicial compensation from political considerations and ensuring the independence of this branch of government.
